It’s tempting to assume that hiring new people can solve all resourcing issues – but often, it can be more effective to make better use of those you already have.

For many organisations, the answer to their resourcing issues is already sat at desks within the organisation itself – it’s just not efficiently deployed.

Master resource schedule

Many businesses hire on the basis of what they need – but don’t look internally first to see what they already have. So, one side of a business can be cutting back or letting people go – when another side of the business could really benefit from the skills that are about to be lost.

We work with organisations to understand the resources – people – they have now, how they are deployed, the roles they fulfil and the skills they have. We also assess what other roles within the business they could undertake – and then help to plan how they could be redeployed, to the benefit of the business and the individuals.

Forward load analysis

When a resource crisis happens, the time to act in the most efficient way has already passed. Quanta helps organisations to understand their future skills need (often using information gained during a master resource schedule process) to create a robust plan that predicts and accommodates upcoming resource needs.

It’s often the case that there isn’t a need to hire new people to address resource issues – it may be possible to retrain or cross-train people and save on recruitment costs. Before considering hiring as a solution, we always ask: can we address this need within the current resource pool of the organisation?

Process assessment

Sometimes, organisations hire people to fix what looks like a recruitment issue, but actually can be solved by addressing inefficiencies in the business. Quanta helps organisations by looking at the workflow between different parts of an organisation with the goals of improving workflow, removing duplication and replicating the successes found in one part of a business to others. Our goal is to identify the cause of the business pressure and to find a different solution than simply ‘throwing people at it’.

Productivity assessment

This operates in a similar way to process assessment, but looks at the effectiveness of individuals and teams. We measure people and teams to identify efficiencies and gains – in short, getting the most from people by ensuring that they are in the right roles. In some cases we can help to downsize or rightsize an organisation by combining teams to remove duplication or simply make them more effective.

Knowledge management

Resourcing issues can be caused by the knowledge in the business being too transient – when it leaves, the business suffers, and it can take a greater number of less knowledgeable people to undertake the same role. This can be especially true when a team of specialist contractors is working on a strategic project – the knowledge in the heads of the contractors isn’t just needed to complete the project, it needs to be retained in the business when the contractors leave. Quanta works with organisations to identify and resolve knowledge management issues, ensuring that vital knowledge is retained.

Risk management

Many resourcing and recruitment initiatives carry risk – including risk of failure or legal risks during succession planning, downsizing, mergers and takeovers. Quanta’s extensive experience can be exploited to help ensure that such risks are mitigated and vital recruitment or resourcing projects suffer as few setbacks as possible.
