Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) plays a crucial role in the life sciences sector.  While the tasks of CQV engineers may vary, the central focus is to ensure that a detailed and science-based process is followed for the specification, design, and verification of medical equipment and systems. Essentially, CQV holds an integral position that ensures medical devices and treatments are fit for purpose.

As with all life sciences jobs, CQV engineer jobs are highly rewarding and provide a lucrative and exciting career step for process and chemical engineers. As a CQV engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of the life sciences industry, ensuring that new drugs and medical devices are manufactured and delivered to meet the very best standards. The title also poses several other benefits, including:

Opportunities to upskill

CQVs are exposed to numerous projects that allow them to work with different technologies and products. This gives them the advantage of upskilling while benefiting from an exciting career that has its own rewards. While some enjoy a continuous, fulfilling career journey in CQV alone, others can use it as a stepping stone to leverage information that will help them to become specialists in various life sciences sectors.

You get to network with interesting people

CQV is a team effort, with several stakeholders playing key roles to ensure the success of projects. This means you’ll meet numerous interesting people throughout your CQV journey, including professionals who could become invaluable to your network. Simultaneously, you’ll have the opportunity to share knowledge and insights that will help shape your contribution to projects as well as your career path.

Interesting job locations to choose from

CQV offers genuinely interesting roles in locations across the globe. From biotechnology through to single system expansions, engineers can expand in specialised industries in locations that are exciting and boast revolutionary prospects. For example, CQV engineers and MedTech professionals across Europe are flocking to Ireland to enter new career paths and associate with a thriving medical industry.

How do I become a CQV engineer?

If you’re new to the industry and would like to start your career in CQV, then you’ll need the following qualifications and experience:

  • A bachelor/master’s degree in biochemistry, microbiology, laboratory science or engineering

  • Pharmaceutical work experience

You’ll also need strong communication, problem-solving, and technical skills. The ability to lead teams and manage projects will be to your advantage.

With the current shortage of CQV skills in the life sciences industry, now is a great time to consider a career in Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation. The sector is expected to grow 7% by 2028 in the UK alone as the government pushes forward to world health leader status.
