The evolution of Quanta's Learning and Development team
How has 2022 been for the Learning and Development team?
It’s been a crazy year, but a great one. The Talent Acquisition team have made a record amount of hires which has meant we’ve organised inductions every month of the year through 2022. Because of our record number of new Delivery Executives we’ve onboarded, too, we’ve had to create a miniature version of our ‘Fast track to Delivery Executive’ programme so that all our new hires are being given the right training early to help them achieve – and overachieve – their targets! We are constantly evolving our training to adapt to the needs of the business and our colleagues. And the training doesn’t stop after inductions – it is a constant throughout all our colleagues’ careers. This year especially, we have found that more and more people are wanting to invest in their learning, so the demand for the department is increasing, and we’re hoping to grow the team in 2023 to support the needs of our business.
What have the highlights of this year been?
This year, we’ve seen the introduction of a fantastic new training programme for our business winning team. The MAPSTAR Training Academy, run by long-term friend of the business, Brad Shackleton, was introduced in January and after such positive feedback, we started a new cohort in November.
This year particularly, with the volume of new faces we’ve added to the business, our induction process has really highlighted Quanta’s fantastic one team culture. We integrate our new starters from day one with induction sessions led by experienced members of relevant departments as well as team-building lunches. We’ve received some really excellent feedback from our new starters this year – it’s great to see all our hard work pay off!
We also introduced some significant external training to the business this year too. Jo, our Business Service’s Manager, and I attended a mental health first responder course which we will be rolling out to more colleagues in 2023 and we introduced a new external management course for three of our colleagues.
Another standout achievement in 2022 is the financial planning workshop we launched. With the cost-of-living crisis a very real concern for many, we really wanted to bring in some guidance on saving, budgeting and pension planning for colleagues to sign up to. Both our remote and office workers were delivered the session with an external financial advisor and offered a follow up confidential 1-to-1 session. We’re planning to run more sessions in 2023.
What are the Learning and Development team looking forward to in 2023?
We’re really excited to be expanding our team and are currently looking for the right fit for our Learning and Development Administrator position. With a new addition we will be able to continue supporting the growth of the wider business and help our colleagues hit their career goals too.
Working towards our new US office launch is also big part of 2023 for us. We are currently negotiating the training requirements and logistics of implementing sessions to our team in the states, so it coincides with the UK office effectively. We’re exploring all options - in person and online training, so that our overseas employees receive the same quality of learning that Quanta are so renowned for.
We will also continue building our online learning and development platform with the hopes to launch fully in 2023. Here, we will store e-learning courses and resources for our colleagues to access independently – so there’s no waiting around for a person to become free to run a training session. I can imagine it’s going to be another busy year – so watch this space!
