Construction Project Manager - Contract - London

Our client that specialises in producing radiopharmaceutical products for patients across the globe are currently seeking the expertise of a Construction Project Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the ‘build’ of the facility, through the project management of the Construction workstream focused on the build of the IRP facility. This is one of seven Project workstreams, alongside Quality, Legal, IT, etc. The postholder will build structure to the project and deliver to approved timescales, cost, and quality expectations.

The project is at around 30% delivery completion, with enablement work and some other work having been completed. It has been in a remediation and recovery phase over recent weeks, with the project team working hard to resolve issues and get the project back on track. As such we are looking for a seasoned, experienced, and expert construction delivery professional, with excellent troubleshooting, organisational, management, collaboration, and communication skills, to join the team. This individual will lead on the remainder of the remediation work, then manage to facility construction through to completion, identifying opportunities for acceleration in the process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • To ensure rigorous project control – this is not currently in place, and so needs to be implemented and bedded-in.
  • To provide and support effective and appropriate project communication, collaboration and teamwork between all parties involved with the project, including weekly updates to all Project Stakeholders. To include both scheduled and ad hoc communications across various channels, supporting the timely and clear flow of information and decision making. And to provide regular updates in the form of reporting decks, presentations, write-ups of Actions/Decisions from meetings, and financial spend review to management.
  • To manage the remainder of remediation and recovery that has been underway on the project over the past several weeks. This will require time being spent understanding challenges to date and what has been done / is being done to resolve them, assessing whether there are any additional changes/activities required, ultimately resulting in the workstream being brought back-on track and under close control (see above) as quickly as possible.
  • To manage the Primary Contractor and other contractors to ensure tasks are being performed effectively, the project remains on track, quality/cost/time are being carefully managed, contractor performance is being proactively managed, problem solving activities are supported, etc.
  • To work closely with the Construction Workstream Lead to manage the project through to successful completion. Regular communication and collaboration with the overall Project Manager.
  • To build and maintain and communicate a detailed project plan, including ensuring it is aligned with commercial expectations, and presented to all stakeholders.
  • To provide effective financial/budget management –ensure the project remains on budget and any change or deviation to spend is clearly and effectively translated to and managed with the Project Manager and senior management Evaluate any additional costs, challenge and manage with contractors.
  • To effectively collaborate with internal senior management, along with key stakeholders, contractors, and partners.
  • Closely and effectively manage and communicate Workstream Risks, Issues, Dependencies, Actions and Decisions.
Desirable Experience:
  • Project Manager with 7-10 years’ experience in managing new builds in the pharmaceutical arena, specifically clean rooms / GMP facilities.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Holds a suitably recognized qualification in Project Management – e.g. Prince 2
  • Understands local regulations surrounding such a project e.g. – EU GMP, IRR17, EA Regulations, NEC 3 contracts, health, and safety environment regulations, etc
  • Excellent computer skills, especially Outlook, Excel, Project, PowerPoint. Experience using MS Team is a plus
  • Analytical and methodical in approach.
  • Problem solver, consistently solution-oriented with a can-do mindset; adept at instilling a culture within the workstream / team of proactivity, positivity, and progress.
  • Excellent communication skills, in written, oral and presentation format.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate and ordered data.
  • Punctual and structured in work, essential to keep discipline and governance over the project.
  • Able to work closely within a team and direct others where required.
