Design Manager - Data Centres - 12-month contract - UK

This is your opportunity to work for a global data centre operator that has been recognised for as one of fastest growing and well-known groups in the industry.

Having received significant investment, this established data centre group is in their next phase of growth and require the expertise of a Design Manager. They have established partnerships with many of the well-known technology powerhouses and tailor to their development to their client's requirements.  

Responsibilities: 
  • You will take ownership of the entire design life cycle for both existing and new developments in your region
  • In collaboration with your team, you'll tackle intricate engineering challenges and guide their resolution
  • Interfacing with clients throughout the design and construction phases
  • Attend assigned sites regularly and frequently. Manage external design teams ensuring their collaboration aligns with design and sustainability goals
  • Support procurement and regional project lead and oversee the selection of local partners for design development, contract oversight, and Value Engineering (VE) implementation with the General Contractor (GC) and Engineer of Record (EOR)
  • Develop and enhance design, procurement, and construction processes to streamline Operations delivery, including change management with consultants and contractors.
  • Quality assurance and risk management 
  • Conduct regular meetings with design teams to provide feedback and address concerns.
  • Own, drive, and conclude early design baselines and OPR deviation logs aligned with customer requirements in the region, collaborating closely with the regional development team and Sales and Solution Engineering to ensure lease agreement compliance
Ideal Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field, from an accredited university or college
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering management/coordination or equivalent managerial positions required; 10 years preferred
  • Accredited engineering credentials preferred (Chartered / Professional Engineer)
  • Mission Critical experience is required
  • Experience in the region’s construction market is required
  • Understanding of Revit, BIM, and Navisworks environments
  • Working knowledge of critical cooling infrastructure and critical power infrastructure within a data center project
