Construction Manager – London – Heavy Lift

Our client is a global leader in developing, engineering, building, and owning some of the largest industrial projects around the World. They have a developed a reputation for their culture, diversity, and commitment to the environment. With a portfolio of Mega-projects around the globe there is no better time to join this company – and they are looking for a Construction Manager to join their London location.

The role of Site Construction Manager is to ensure the efficient and effective execution on site during the Construction phase of regional on-site EPC projects, and to provide support during the Commissioning phase. This is managed through development of the Overall Construction Strategy and Deployment of Construction Staff on the Project, as well as support of engineering design development. This is primarily a site-based role but will include a period of time in a head office environment working on front end project development such as contract strategies, planning and constructability. The ability to communicate with key stakeholders both at site and in a Head Office environment is a key attribute for the role.

Skills / Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience as a Construction Manager and it is a distinct advantage if the candidate has extensive experience in construction site leadership roles delivering major EPC capital projects valued £100 to £500million in industrial gases or associated industries such as Oil & Gas. 
  • Demonstrate experience with directly managing multi-discipline site teams of up to 50 people.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within and outside of the organisation.
  • An experienced leader and developer of teams, with a proven ability to lead, engage and motivate the team.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand importance of monitoring contractor performance by use of key performance indicators (KPI) and being able to report clearly site progress and performance to senior management.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation, codes and standards with the ability to manage contractors.
  • Recent on-shore Petrochemical and Oil & Gas experience previous experience on ASU Plants would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of UK contractor capabilities.
  • Established networks and historical relationships.
  • Knowledge of UK labour force.
  • Knowledge of UK CDM regulations.
  • Knowledge of specific UK industrial relations (IR) challenges.
  • Ideally, degree qualified or with Technically qualified / time served trades person with trade registrations / vocational qualifications.
  • Use of and familiarity with process and safety tools such as P&ID’s and HAZOPs.
  • Change Management processes and implementation.
  • Project costing skills for evaluation and managing constructability.
  • Construction Contracting experience / Contract Management.
  • Experience of turnkey construction scope including installation of equipment and packages, interconnecting pipework and instrument / electrical cable, infrastructure/utilities scope, tie ins, pipeline networks.
