30 Years of Quanta

It started as just one man, a telephone, and an ambition: to unite people with life changing industries.

Whilst our mission hasn’t changed over the past 30 years, plenty of other things at Quanta have. As April 6th, 2022, marks our 30th birthday, join us in our nostalgia as we look back at the journey we have taken as a company in the past three decades.

How It Started

In 1992, Stephen Trigg, founder and Chairman, set up shop in our first Quanta office – a room above the garage of his family home. Long before the days of accessing the internet with the tap of a finger, Quanta’s recruitment story began with a pen, a notebook, and a telephone.

For three years, Quanta remained a lone venture. But as Stephen began making a name for himself as a dedicated, skilled, and loyal recruitment consultant, his client and candidate portfolio grew, along with a need to expand the workforce. In 1995, Quanta head office made their very first hire.

The Quanta journey initially began within the industries of banking, finance, and mobile telecoms. As the 90s gave rise to the mobile phone, Quanta got a foothold in the recruitment sector that would soon see them burgeoning down a path of success.

How It’s Going

Our recruitment focus expanded in the early 2000s to focus on Life Science (Pharmaceuticals and Biopharmaceuticals), Renewable Energy and Data Centres, joining our IT function. Since then, we haven’t looked back. In fact, we have placed over 60,000 candidates in our time!

We’re constantly evolving at Quanta, adapting to the current market and the needs of our ever-growing business. As such, we’ve had many different ‘looks’ through the years (thankfully, not the famous 90s mullet…) Take a look at how our colourful journey is reflected in our logo evolution:

Greatest Achievements and Fondest Memories

We've received some incredible accolades over the past 30 years. Some of our proudest achievements to date include receiving The Princess Training Award and the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade. Just this year, we won the SIA Award for 'Best UK Staffing Firm to Work For' as voted by our own team! We have also been recognised as one of 100 Best Small Companies to Work For in 2018, 2019 and 2021

And with that in mind, what better way to toast our success than to collect some treasured memories from our Quantarians:

So many years of Quanta memories – starting from when our Head Office was first located above the garage at our family home. It was a fantastic experience to then have achieved Quanta’s first placement in the Offshore Wind Industry in 2007, and help the business win the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2016. We've had so many great parties and celebrations over the years, and a few food fights too!

Spencer, CEO

I don’t know where to start! Firstly, I am so lucky to work alongside a very talented and perfectly quirky team at Quanta – and the memories I’ve made over the years are entirely down to the people here. I’ve been first-hand witness to so many of my team members progressing their careers and achieving personal goals and it is one of the best parts of my job. Together, we’ve had countless amazing parties, BBQs, weekends away, and charity events. But above all, I think some of my favourite memories are from our team trips to Portugal! Sun, sea, sand, sangria, and a whole lot of fun!

Lauren, Associate Operations Director

One of my best memories was the Oktoberfest weekend we spent in London. The whole experience was so much fun, everyone made such an effort dressing up, and we danced and drank steins of beer (spilling a few) all night! Also, once I found out I had passed my probation, I returned to my desk to find the team had piled all my stuff in a box and left it by the front door…. Clearly, they love me!

Sophie, Contracts Executive

There are so many memories to choose from! There are always hilarious gifts exchanged around Christmas… including a chicken, a book on taxidermy and a hamster to name a few! I’ve made some amazing memories on trips away, especially Disneyland Paris for my family that I was gifted in celebration of my 15-year anniversary. I also once hid Ben’s car keys in the office – and completely forgot about them. He spent until 8pm searching the office – before having his brother pick him up! Not sure he has ever forgiven me…

Jo, Business Services Manager

There are too many to count! Some of my best memories include: Our 20th birthday celebrations in Portugal; walking along the beach to Julia’s restaurant and zigzagging the way back. The many Christmas parties we’ve shared with contractors, as well as nights out in our local, The Goat, where Stephen danced me into a circle of strangers – nearly knocking them all over! And of course, decorating Dave’s chair with Everton signs… although I don’t think that’ll be his favourite memory!

Caz, Global Business Manager

Celebrating 30 Years: Quanta Style

It wouldn’t be a true Quanta celebration if there wasn’t a trip on the horizon, and a commemorating carpark barbie! On April 6th, Directors Spencer and David will be on the grills, flaming up some excellent nosh for a 30th Birthday lunch to remember.

And of course, we are jet setting. A destination close to our heart; this June, the Quanta team are swapping the Berkhamsted head office for the balmy shores of Vale Do Lobo. We expect the festivities to include plenty of cocktails, dips in the Mediterranean Sea and a perhaps a dodgy tan line or two...

Chapter 30 is filled with so many exciting new opportunities for Quanta. Would you like to be involved, and want to know more about recruitment jobs in Berkhamsted? Get in touch with our internal recruitment team today and see how you can start your very own Quanta journey.
